How to manage your church's reputation on Facebook

How to manage your church's reputation on Facebook

Managing your online reputation is crucial. Anyone and everyone out there has access to your website, Facebook page, and any other media that you have set up. Furthermore, anyone out there can say anything about you on your sites, and you just have to stand there and turn the other cheek.

People can honestly say the most bizarre things on the internet! One of my favourites was on a Facebook ad that I put out into the world: I had a bunch of people writing “Convert to Islam!” underneath, which was kind of the opposite of what I was intending (I laugh now but I was dying on the inside!).

But as Christians in an ever-evolving non-Christian world, we are bound to come across some online persecution.

Which is why today I thought I'd share some of my tips for maintaining your online reputation on Facebook.

I have a confession:

I have been on a little bit of a Facebook hiatus.

Not because I don’t want to post, or I don’t have the time to post [more on that here and here].

But because I’ve been feeling a little uninspired, and my well of content is coming up dry. So I decided that rather than sitting down and wishing for something interesting to happen, I’d sit down, brainstorm, and conjure up interesting posts with more intention.

This post is essentially my brainstorm session of the tips I need to keep in mind while I’m posting to Facebook, with actionable ideas that you can take away from them. If that sounds kooky I’m sure it’ll all make sense below! [At least I hope so!]

6 Christmas posts to adorn your church Facebook page

6 Christmas posts to adorn your church Facebook page

I am guilty of being a last-minute present buyer, food-shopper, gift-wrapper and tree-decorator. So I guess it comes as no surprise that Christmas has snuck up on me once again this year, and I found myself scrambling a little to find Christmas ideas to post on my church Facebook page.

At Christmas time, everyone seems to have limited budgets, limited time, and limited patience. If you’re feeling like that, it’s likely your Facebook followers are too, and will have much less patience in reading a dull Facebook post. So, no pressure, but its time to try something new and different for your church Facebook page this Christmas. It’s time to post catchy, interesting things that will grab people’s attention.

So I have come up with 6 easy posts you can do that will have maximum impact on your peeps! Check them out below...

Finding shareworthy content for social media (a simple system!)

Finding shareworthy content for social media (a simple system!)

Have you ever hung out with a friend after they've been overseas, and they show you photos of their trip?

Have they ever shown you way too many photos?

Yep. I think we’ve all been there.

It’s a difficult situation because:

  1. You genuinely love your friend and want to hear about their trip
  2. You just don’t want to hear about it that much

It’s the same with social media.

People like you, and they want to hear a little bit, but they don’t want you to bombard them with stories that aren’t relevant or interesting to them. And unlike the friend who politely sits through your trip photos, your social media followers aren’t going to stick around while you tell them how you lost your passport in Trinidad. They’re going to leave. So the best thing to do is to only post your absolute best on social media. We’re talking the choc-chip bits from the cookie, not the flour.

The difficult thing about posting only great content, is that it is so incredibly difficult to find share-worthy content to post.
